Three concepts of Social Responsibility
I am interested in car industry, so I
gathered information related to cars.
Profit Responsibility
-Toyota Motor Corporation's Improved
Performance and Shareholder Returns in Fiscal Year 2024
Toyota Motor Corporation posted an enormous profit expansion for the
fiscal year finished March 2024, boosting operating income by 111.9%
year-on-year to 4.6214 trillion yen and net income by 101.7% to 4.9449 trillion
yen. The causes of this enhancement in performance incorporate operating
efforts, cost improvements, and the impact of exchange rate fluctuations. In
addition, the company has moved to return profits to shareholders, such as
increasing dividends and repurchasing its own stock, and has announced its
policy of maintaining a total return ratio of around 40%. This is a fine
instance of the company's responsibility to maximize profits for shareholders
in the context of complying with laws and regulations.
2. Stakeholder
Responsibility
- Volkswagen's Emissions Scandal
Volkswagen's emissions test
scandal that was unearthed in 2015 affected a huge base of stakeholders all
over the world, including customers, employees, shareholders, and business
partners. Four of its former executives were convicted of fraud in May 2025,
and the company has paid fines and compensation of more than $33 billion to
date. This example shows why it is important for companies to fulfill their
commitments to their stakeholders.
3. Societal Responsibility
- Porsche's
"Partner to Society" Strategy
Porsche seeks to achieve a
sustainable society through its corporate activities under the "Partner to
Society" vision. It proactively resolves social issues in fields of
environmental protection, promotion of education, regional community building,
and employee satisfaction improvement. This, for example, includes sponsorship
of STEM education to eliminate educational disparities among youth and
promoting carbon neutrality goals as part of climate change adaptation.
Porsche's actions are a perfect example of its dedication to generating both
economic value as a luxury car producer and social value.
