applying BCG QUADRANT to real world company product

I decided to conduct the analysis with Sony's approval because I myself am interested in the company since Sony is a Japanese company whose products I am familiar with and use.

First of all, I considered products that fall under the BCG Matrix, which is a framework for classifying a company's products and businesses on two axes, “market growth rate” and “market share,” and for allocating management resources and considering future strategies.

First, the “Cash Cows” are PlayStation 4 and Bravia TVs. While the market for these products is already mature, they have maintained a high market share and are consistently profitable. PlayStation 4, in particular, has been a major contributor to Sony's profits for many years.

Next, the “Dogs (losers)” category includes Xperia smartphones and MD players, which were once popular but now have limited market share and growth. Xperia, in particular, has been suffering from sluggish sales amid intensifying competition in the smartphone market and is now required to revise its strategy going forward.

The “Stars” include the PlayStation 5, which enjoys a high market share in a rapidly growing market, and the image sensor business, which is widely used in smartphones, automobiles, and other products. These are the core products that will drive Sony in the future.

Finally, Question Marks include Sony's new entry into the electric car market (VISION-S) and the aibo robot pet. While these products have growth potential as a market, their market shares are low at this time, and it is unclear whether they will be successful even with a large investment. After determining whether continued growth can be expected in the future, a decision will need to be made as to whether to continue or withdraw from the investment.
