Week6ーFinance vs Marketing

In this week, I learned about the marketing research process and the consumer decision-making process throughout professor's provided website. At just the right time, I came across an interesting article comparing marketing and finance (“Finance vs Marketing” | EDUCBA), which gave me an opportunity to reconsider the importance of marketing.
The article explained that while finance emphasizes numbers and management, marketing places greater importance on “consumer relationships” and “responsiveness to market needs.” This reminded me of an experience I had with an engineering project I was involved in previously.
During my university days, I participated in a project focused on designing from the user's perspective. At that time, I realized that just because a product is technically feasible doesn't necessarily mean it will succeed in the market. Our team was developing an environmental monitoring device using sensor technology, but through user interviews, we discovered that “portability” and ‘usability’ were prioritized over “measurement accuracy.” This truly highlighted the importance of “problem definition” and “research design” in the marketing research process.
Furthermore, within the consumer decision-making process, we needed to consider how to guide users through the stages of “awareness,” “information gathering,” and “evaluation of alternatives.” As this article also points out, marketing is not merely about advertising but is a field that requires a strategic approach based on an understanding of customers.
Ultimately, we paid attention not only to the product's performance but also to non-functional elements such as packaging design and improvements to the user manual. This aligns with the concept of “product mix” in marketing strategy.
Reading this article made me realize how closely my own experiences are connected to marketing theory. Even in the field of engineering, incorporating a marketing perspective into product development and technology selection can lead to more practical and market-acceptable outcomes.
